Editor's Note
One more from the census. I asked who our “friendly” rival is, and half of you chose: “We don’t have rivals, only admirers.” Note to self: I won’t be offering that option next time.
Among those willing to name names, Leichhardt came out well in front at 19%, with Stanmore and Glebe trailing. Adding fuel to the fire, one reader skipped the options and wrote, “Forest Lodge. It’s not even [a] real suburb!”
Leichhardt and Forest Lodge, if you’d like a right of reply, my inbox is open ;)

St Brendan's fete answers the call
Letter from Chris Hall, Chair of the St Brendan's Fete Committee:
I was interested to read your readers' feedback last week that a school fete would be a lovely addition to the local calendar. Look no further! The St Brendan's Fete is on Sunday 8 November, 10.30am to 1.30pm, at 30 Collins St. Our parish and school community have spent the past few months building and painting our own carnival games, made by locals, for locals. There'll be a petting zoo, giant pachinko, face painting, sausage sizzle, silent auction and more. stbrendansfete.com.au.
A Steinway concert lands on Johnston St
On Sun 22 Nov at 3pm, Steinway pianist Ronan Magill plays his first Australian recital at Hunter Baillie Memorial Church. The program includes Bach, Beethoven, Debussy and Liszt, two pieces by Australian composer Miriam Hyde and a work of his own, written for those lost on the Titanic. From across the ditch
Dru, the editor of the Glebe Rag, posted this in her community newsletter this week:
‘‘I promised to bring a bit of colour back from the Glebe Art Show. Instead, one of my favourite pieces turned out to be black and white! I was so impressed (and inspired) by the local talent, and choosing one for the Community Choice Award wasn’t easy. Entry is free and the show runs until Sunday, so there’s still time to pick your own favourite and cast a vote.’’

Council votes 8–7 against more time on consultation
Inner West Council this week voted against extending public consultation on its Fairer Future housing plan, which closes next Wednesday, 28 October. The Greens councillors are holding a town hall tomorrow (Saturday) at 2.30pm at Leichhardt Town Hall (see here).
Last week I mentioned that a local has built a 3D model to help residents understand what the changes involve. Apologies, the link didn’t come through, possibly because it was flagged as spam, so here it is as text: annandale-3d.annandale-3d.workers.dev (Source: Annandale 2038 FB Post (3D model))

Letters to the Troll
Michael's letter, paraphrased: Our grid can't keep up with our solar. Annandale has the second oldest substations in the Ausgrid network, at more than 70 years old, and the grid can't return usable energy from solar panels. Michael also argues that the federal government pays rebates for energy that gets dissipated.
Editor: Thank you Michael, we appreciate your letter and as my grandmother used to say, if we all thought the same, it would be a very boring world. So if you have a different opinion, feel free to write me a letter. You can also raise these concerns or other questions at the Q&A at Electrify Inner West Event this Sat (Leichhardt Town Hall, Sat 24 Oct, 10am-1pm).
