Leichhardt’s version of the Troll?
A few of you have asked whether we could do a newsletter like the Troll for Leichhardt. I love the idea, but it works best with an editor who lives in the suburb and loves it too. So consider this the official call out: Do you know someone who'd make a good editor for a Leichhardt newsletter? The commitment is a few hours a week for a curious mind with a love of the place. If someone comes to mind, can you connect me with them?
Aussie Spirit flowing at Annandale Public School
APS published some initiatives this week that the community can be proud of. Last Friday there was a mufti day of green and gold, with World Cup fever spreading across the playground as the school cheered for the Socceroos. This week, it was NAIDOC Day with Uncle Ricky from Billabong Dreaming and Aunty Lynda and Jessey from Cockatoo Dreaming, leading students through bush tucker, storytelling and a batch of rivermint lemonade and eucalyptus honey popcorn. Snap your favourite parts of the Dale
Council is running an Urban Photography Competition, inviting locals to capture the built environment and heritage around them. For a suburb packed with Gothic terraces, a 19th-century brick viaduct and laneways that reward a second look, Annandale feels like it was made for this one. There is a general, high school and primary school prize. This year’s theme is change. Feel free to share your snaps with me too and I'll post them here. (Source: Inner West Council)
Oscar’s lightbulb moment
Oscar, 4, has written in with a clever idea: “Put lights on so we can see you at night.” Oscar’s mum elaborates, saying “Oscar has been having trouble finding you [the Johnston St Troll sculpture] when we drive past at night time. He was wondering if you could be lit up so you can be seen in the dark.” Not a bad suggestion for council to get the local landmark lit up like our own little Vivid. PS.. I love the Vegemite jar in the background 🙂
