Reminder 1: Socceroos this Sunday at 2pm
Annandale pubs will be the place to be for the World Cup which kicks off today. If you haven’t, I highly recommend seeking out a full pub to watch a game or two on the big screen. Find our recommended viewing station in the Events section below (hint: rhymes with The Ick)
Reminder 2: get your stories in!
This is a big one. Entries for the inaugural Annandale kids’ creative writing comp close Sunday 21 June. It's open to all primary schoolers in two age brackets, with $50 Messina vouchers for six winners. It’s easy to enter: simply read the entry steps here (and share it to your kids, grandkids, family and friends - all are welcome).
Whites Creek's missing middle, SOLVED*
Two weeks back the Troll flagged the fenced strip splitting Whites Creek Community Garden in two. Well, mystery solved! The 3.5m × 50m strip belongs to the NSW government, which fenced it in May to stop dumping, leaving gardeners to wheelbarrow up onto White St between the halves. After the saga hit the national news, councillor Philippa Scott and Kobi Shetty MP wrote to the planning minister, whose department is now in talks with council to transfer the land. Great news for the 100 locals waiting for a garden plot. (Source: Annandale 2038 Group post 1, Phillipa Scott post)
Parliamentary mention for Annandale Preschool
Annandale Preschool got a shout-out on the floor of state parliament last week. Local MP Kobi Shetty used a speech to thank the children, families and educators who donated food and pantry staples to her Free Community Pantry, which supports neighbours doing it tough. A big effort from the suburb's smallest residents. (Hansard, 4th June)
Parra Rd rezoning feedback is in
The NSW government wants up to 8,000 new homes along Parramatta Rd. Council surveyed locals over autumn and 572 responded. Two thirds back the housing, three quarters want affordable housing included, and more trees topped the streetscape wishlist while extra parking came dead last. Asked where the homes should go, locals named the old WestConnex dive site at 176 Parramatta Rd, and flagged Albion St as the street to leave alone for its heritage. The feedback now goes to the state government, which expects to release its draft plan later this year. (Read the survey results here)

One thing worth remembering in property is that most of the data we read is looking in the rear-view mirror. The major platforms do a fantastic job of collecting information, but by the time it's published, the market on the ground can be months further down the road.
Over the past few months we've seen prices adjust more quickly than many expected, yet much of the published commentary is only now beginning to reflect what buyers and sellers have already been navigating. The interesting part is that auction clearance rates have now sat in a relatively consistent range for almost ten weeks. Whether that's a sign the market has found its floor remains to be seen, but it does suggest some stability is beginning to emerge. Closer to home, Annandale continues to do what Annandale does best. People still want to be here, and despite the noise, quality homes in great locations continue to attract attention as noted in the below sales. If you're looking for a standout home, why not check out 283 Young St, Annandale – not one of my homes, but a lovely home all the same.JUST SOLD

Letters to the Troll
Hello Troll
One topic that I thought you might be interested to cover:
Why is there no nice bar in Annandale for a quiet drink in the evening?
We've got several pubs (Vic, Annandale, North Annandale, Empire) and thats great if you're in a pub mood. But what about a nice bar? Or a nicer pub?
Do you have any idea why that hasn't appeared?
Geoff
Sincerely,
Mark (resident of Annandale)
