White’s Creek Wetlands concerns continue
Our local wetlands at White's Creek have been generating a lot of conversation on Facebook lately, with reports of thick weed growth blanketing the water surface and cutting off oxygen to aquatic life below. The concerns raised are real and worth taking seriously (Annandale 2038 FB Group)
I walk through this area most days with my dog, so this one is particularly close to home for me. But Facebook discussions can draw people who already feel strongly about an issue and I'm curious what the broader community thinks. If you have a view, I'd love to hear it. Take our short poll below and we'll publish the results next week.
How do you feel about the state of White's Creek Wetlands and council's responsibility?
- I'm not familiar enough with the issue to have a strong view
- Council should prioritise and properly resource the maintenance of public green spaces like this
- Funded Caretakers are a better long-term model than relying on council staff alone
- I'm sympathetic to the concerns but think council has other spending priorities right now
- I think the concern is being overstated, these natural areas do go through cycles
200 verge gardens and counting
The Inner West recently reached 200 registered verge gardens, turning nature strips into patches of plants and wildlife habitat. In the Troll’s completely unbiased view, I think Annandale has the best ones too 😉 If you’ve been thinking about starting a verge garden, council supplies free plants and mulch to do so and you can register for one here.
The lizard artist strikes again

2 more local lizards spotted, courtesy of Theodore and Emily
Eight lizards have now been spotted around our streets, and their mysterious creator continues to evade detection. Do we have our very own Banksy in our midst? There's something wonderful about art that just appears, quietly adding colour, character and a little magic to the streets we walk every day. Despite really wanting to know who the artist is, perhaps the lizards don't need a signature. They're already doing their job. A special thank you to Emily and Theodore for the latest pics, keep them coming!
Parking rangers out in Annandale
Parking rangers have been active around town lately, with some locals having received fines for not parking rear or front to kerb where specified, or not parking at specific angles (commonly 45 or 90 degrees). There are few things worse than coming back to find that dreaded paper on your windscreen! So I thought I’d mention this to hopefully save some neighbours from that 🙂

Real Estate
BEN’S WRAP sponsored by Ben Southwell ,
The disrupted Easter break has given the market a moment to catch its breath and honestly, that's not a bad thing. After a fast start to the year, both buyers and sellers have stepped back to recalibrate. It feels considered rather than cautious.
There is real noise in the background right now though: rate speculation, the lead-up to the Federal Budget, broader uncertainty. Buyers are still here, but they're sharper. The focus has shifted from chasing to qualifying e.g. what's the right price, the right home, the right moment.
April will run lean on new listings. In Annandale, that's never a bad position to be in if you're selling.
