Annandale’s fairies have been saved
A beautiful fairy garden built on a local verge for children, has come under pressure after being issued with a council notice. The community rallied loudly online, Mayor Darcy Byrne and MP Kobi Shetty both stepped in and the decision was reversed. (Annandale 2038 FB Group)
It seems the fairies weren't alone. A reader tells us that around the same time, a local has been taking down a children's swing on a Trafalgar St and leaving notes demanding its removal. Again due to community support, logic prevailed 🙂 Something we should celebrate!
Parramatta Rd rezoning - last chance to have your say
Council's consultation on the Parramatta Rd Corridor rezoning closes on the 25th March. If you haven't had your say yet, now's the time. Feedback will be used to inform the State-Significant Development Proposal for up to 8,000 new homes along the corridor. Have your say here.

Readers chime in on Callan Park Baths
Thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s poll. The results are in and more than two thirds of respondents are either going once open or pending water quality results.

Good boy Leroy
A Jack Russell named Leroy became an unlikely local hero after his owner took a nasty fall. Leroy barked until a neighbour woke up and came to help. His owner was taken to hospital and Leroy was cared for by the caring neighbours. Thankfully, both are now back home safe and sound. (Annandale 2038 FB Group)
A farewell to a local legend
A fitting send-off was held at Hunter Baillie Presbyterian Church on Johnston St last weekend for Steven Patterson, known to many as Paddo the Colourmaker. Steven, who passed away late last year, left a deep mark on local community and culture.
He was the founder of art materials company Derivan, a member of the Royal Society and a long-serving member of both the NSW Police Pipe Band and the NSW Pipe Band Association. He also founded the rockabilly band The Stray Dogs and marched in the ANZAC Day parade for more than 30 years.
Vale, Paddo.

Real Estate
BEN’S WRAP sponsored by Ben Southwell ,
This week’s rate rise to 4.1% has sparked plenty of conversations, with buyers asking the same question… should we wait? It’s a familiar pattern. Through multiple cycles, hesitation tends to come first, then once the dust settles, activity lifts and prices follow.
That lift is often the “wait tax”... the cost of sitting on the side lines while the market resets. The question becomes less about timing the market and more about whether the right home is worth securing when it presents, rather than following the crowd and potentially paying more later.

Letters to the Troll
Thanks for your really great Annandale newsletter - I’m a subscriber and a local having lived here for more than 40 years - there have been some changes in that time!!!
I’m writing in relation to your article in this weeks newsletter about blister pack recycling and wanted to let you know that the Inner West Council’s Homecycle initiative also accepts medical blister packs - plus they will collect from your home - along with soft plastics and a bunch of other things. This link shows you what can be collected. (here)
I have been using the service for the last year and find it very easy to use and they collect when they say they will - the hardest part is keeping everything in bags till you are ready to organise a collection. My neighbors and I usually club together to make it worthwhile.
Keep up the great work - my husband and I especially love the history articles - such an amazing place to live and we love our community.
