A stone’s throw from “the best arts venue in the country’’
The 1950s Entertainment Hall at White Bay Power Station has been restored and reopened in time for the Biennale this weekend. The space, once a gathering place for workers and local residents, can now host performances for up to 200 people. Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne also noted the ambition for it to become “the best arts venue in the country.” (Darcy Byrne’s FB Page)
Callan Park Baths - We want to hear from you
Inner West Council is progressing plans for a tidal pool at Callan Park on Iron Cove, sharing mock-up images of the proposed facility. This has sparked local discussions online with some commentators raising concerns about water quality and bull sharks in Iron Cove, though the proposed design includes shark nets. Council has conducted water testing and a risk assessment, with reports and mock-up’s available here.
With opinions divided, we want to know what locals think, would you take a dip? (see the poll below, results will be shared next) (Inner West Council Watch FB Group)
Would you swim in the baths?
New Recycling Option in Annandale
Here’s something that was news to me: medicinal blister packs can now be recycled rather than thrown away. Through the Pharmacycle program, blister packs are separated into their plastic and aluminium components, with the plastic repurposed into items like PVC decking, fencing and furniture, and the aluminium recycled into de-oxidant pucks for the steel-making industry. A collection bin is available at Annandale Village Pharmacy. For more information, visit the site here. Thank you Mark L for sharing this great initiative.

Real Estate
BEN’S WRAP sponsored by Ben Southwell ,
This week’s pre-Easter rush brought a few more listings to the market, but in my view the mood among buyers feels more cautious than earlier in the year. Well-finished homes are still attracting strong competition, though.
Two in Annandale worth a look this weekend are 41 Rose Street (ticks plenty of boxes for families) and 13 Nelson Street (not my listing, just great eye candy if, like me, you enjoy seeing clever home transformations).

Letters to the Troll
Dear Troll,
I have a dark secret: I don’t live in Annandale. I live in Newtown, and grew up further afield. And a friend put me onto the Troll. But I thought my outside perspective is worth sharing: I reckon Annandale is one of the best villages in Australia.
You guys have it good: the perfect balance of space and density. Great parks, proximity to water. Beautiful terraces and witch spires. It’s less weird and dirty than Newtown, but rougher than the plastic East. Replete with cafes and pubs (Revolver and The Victoria Hotel being my pick). Did I mention your prized Chargrill Charlies franchise?
Funnily enough, my grandparents used to own the pharmacy on the corner (Peter and Anne Blackall) – so maybe my affinity is inherited. Anyway, though the locals should know how lucky they are.
