A big thank you this week to everyone who’s shared the Troll with a neighbour or friend. I haven’t run any ads since Christmas, but word still seems to be spreading and the more the merrier. As a little thank you, I’m thinking about introducing a simple referral program, with some Annandale/Troll-themed goodies (tote bags, mugs, that sort of thing) up for grabs. If you’d be keen, or you’ve got a better Troll-themed idea, I’d love to hear it. Just reply to this email 🙂
Village News
Lime bike clutter on Annandale footpaths
Residents are urging there to be clearer rules for where shared Lime bikes can be left. While many residents say they use and support the bikes, others are worried about blocked footpaths and access issues, particularly for prams and older neighbours. Suggestions have been made for designated parking zones to systems used overseas where bikes must be returned to specific spots before a ride can end. (Source: Inner West Council Watch FB Group)
Fish Market lightrail stop set for name change upon new opening
Transport for NSW have confirmed the old Fish Market stop will become Bank Street when the new Sydney Fish Market opens to avoid confusion between the old and new site. For locals using the L1, the advice is to hop off at Wentworth Park if you are heading to the new Fish Market, as it is closer on foot. (Source: 7NEWS Sydney FB Page)
Concerns raised over cyclist and pedestrian conflicts near Johnstons Creek
Residents are concerned about ongoing tensions between cyclists and pedestrians on paths around Taylor and Chester Street. Whilst many use the paths considerately, some riders are said to move too quickly around blind corners and do not dismount where required. Calls have been made for clearer rules and a redesign to make the area safer for walkers, kids and riders alike. (Source: Annandale 2038 FB Group)
Water balloon incident reported near Minogue Crescent
A local family has warned neighbours after children on bicycles were seen throwing water balloons at a moving car near Minogue Crescent, close to the skatepark and courts. They were described as being around primary school age and rode off before anyone could speak to them. Other locals have said similar things have happened in the area over recent weeks, including near Broadway. Police have been notified, and drivers are being urged to take extra care through the spot, especially in the afternoons when kids are around. (Source: Annandale 2038 FB Group)
The Story of Whites Creek and Wetlands

Whites Creek Wetlands. Source: Inner West Council
With plenty of care and strong feeling around Whites Creek Wetlands lately, it felt like a good moment to take a closer look at the creek’s past and how the wetlands came to be. Read it here.
Again, a big thanks to Marghanita da Cruz for her local research which helped shape this piece. You can find her books at Annandale Village Newsagent and website here.
