Troll Mail

Troll Mail, from Sophia

Dear Sophia,

Thank you for your lovely letter and all the wonderful stickers. The unicorn made me smile so wide a pigeon nearly fell off the bridge! In winter I don’t get too cold, because the Johnston Street Underbridge wraps over me like a big warm blanket. For Christmas, well, trolls don’t need toys or treats but we do treasure drawings. If you ever feel like drawing a picture for me, it would be the best gift a troll could get.

“Hello troll. I don’t think you are scary. What do you eat? What do you do at day? Do you sleep at day or night? Merry Christmas! Write back to me. From Rafael.”

Dear Rafael,

Thank you for your magnificent drawing, its colours look like sunset. I’m glad you don’t think I’m scary. Trolls only look a bit rumbly on the outside. During the day I sleep but when I wake, I listen to the bridge humming like a giant drum and to Johnstons Creek whispering as it flows by. I also sometimes count ducks and make up poems for the eels. And for Christmas… another picture or note from you is the finest gift a troll could wish for.
